In Character Information

Character Name: Dipper Pines
Canon: Gravity Falls
Timeline: Post Carpet Diem
Character's Age: 12

Powers, Skills, Pets and Equipment:

Dipper is a thinker. He's smart, resourceful, level headed, and adept to getting himself out of sticky situations. He shows a maturity beyond his years most of the time and he's logical to a fault. He also knows a lot of obscure history and can apparently do some mad calculus on the fly. The kid is a freaking genius when he doesn't get in his own way.

But when the chips are down, you can bet this kid will Mcguyver his way to victory.

What he'll have on him is an old, beaten up tome he keeps in his vest. The cover depicts a six-fingered hand with a "3" in the middle. Inside, there are pages and pages of scrawled out notes and illustrations depicting the strange secrets of Gravity Falls. There are pages in the back that are empty or filled with Dipper's own notes. He carries this with him everywhere he goes. In his pockets we get a bunch of lint, some pocket change, a versatile swiss army knife, and a clicky ball-point pen.

And since the game is allowing powers and such, Dipper will (if approved) come in with Clairvoyance. Through touching normal objects, Dipper will be able to gain key information such as, where it came from, how it works, or brief glimpses at who may have touched the object prior. It's not going to be very strong coming in (Also it will probably be very unreliable and annoying at first), but as Dipper works towards developing it, it could have the potential to do much greater things. (Examples being, touching buildings and understanding their layout, or being able to use the ability on people and catch memories.)

Of course all of this is up to the mods to accept.

Canon History: More information than you can shake a stick at.

Personality: Dipper doesn't give you a whole lot going off of a visible first impression. Don't let that fool you, though. Dipper may be a scrawny, twelve-year-old boy that reeks of emotional issues and baby wipes, but he's a scrawny, twelve-year-old boy who battles the weird and paranormal, using only an old cryptic book he found in the woods and his wits.

Despite his age, he's an extremely intelligent and level headed thinker. Being the direct foil of his twin sister Mabel, he's the one that applies logic and planning to problem solving, as opposed to her silly and spontaneity. When there's trouble, Dipper is the first one with a plan and the guts to execute it. He's an incredibly quick thinker, able to think under dire, life threatening situations. For example, there is an episode where he and some of his friends are trapped in a haunted convenience store with two vengeful spirits picking them off one by one. He was able to quickly puzzle out the ghosts intentions and negotiate their freedom from the store. His sharp wit and over all resourcefulness has gotten them all out of trouble on multiple occasions.

On top of his sharp wit, Dipper is a genuinely outgoing and nice kid. He has a heart for adventure ans an insatiable curiosity. Unsurprisingly he is a huge fan of mysteries and conspiricies and tends to stick he nose where it probably doesn't belong. With all that in mind, despite the trouble he gets into everything he does generally have good intentions at heart. Though he may be hard pressed to admit it, his sister is his closest friend and he is always the first person by her side when she needs him. (Examples of this include him offering to tell Gideon that she wanted to break up with him so she didn't have to do it and choosing her and her happiness over a potential timeline where he got the girl of his dreams.)

Dipper isn't without fault. As Mabel's put it, he gets in his own way. His over planning, over analytical self has been known to, while be helpful in a lot of instances, seriously hold him back in situations of a more social nature. He's meticulous on a neurotic level, and compulsively makes lists to ensure things go his way. Because of his dealings in Gravity Falls, he's also suspicious and easily paranoid. He can also suffer from short bouts of insecurity and self-doubt and often feels the need to prove himself to others and to himself. He's also a little dumb in the sense that it takes a bit for him to see when he's done something insensitive. Sometimes he's not willing to admit when he's wrong until it's pointed out to him. Also if the right thing to do comes between him and something he really wants, it takes him more than a hesitation to do the right thing.

That's usually okay because when you get down to it, Dipper's still just a kid. He's smart, but lacks the experience. His maturity usually exceeds his years, but that does not mean he won't act like a proper 12-year-old sometimes. He can act bratty, or silly just as easily as he can act smart and level. This includes, but isn't limited to him making rude prank calls and blowing up hotdogs in the microwave.

Why do you feel this character would be appropriate to the setting?

I'm not going to mince words- Dipper is from a Disney Cartoon. There's no way to get around that. The difference between Gravity Falls and everything else on that channel is the level of sincerity that emanates from this canon. This isn't just a show about gags and silly happen-stances. This is a show that is, yes, really funny, but delivers the humor in a believable way without sacrificing the reality of the situation. Despite the jokes, there are still plenty of very real, very serious topics that are tackled by this show, effectively deviating it away from being merely a "crack" canon. It has continuity, it has an overarching plot, and recurring characters to boot.

As for Dipper himself, well. Don't let his age fool you, this kid can take care of himself. He's time and again shown that he is smart and resourceful enough to get himself out of all kinds of horrible, supernatural based danger. He's talked down vengeful spirits, he's wrestled a nine-headed bear, outrun an army of a thousand gnomes, and outsmarted a cursed wax replica of Sherlock Holmes. Not to mention he's gone up against people that have been twice as terrible as the monsters surrounding his town.

A great, shining example of this, would be his confrontation with Gideon. Gideon, a boy likely a few years younger than the twins, who had developed an unsettling, obsessive infatuation with Dipper's twin sister. The child psychic shoved and pressured Mabel into a relationship with him until Dipper decided to intervene. Having been crossed, Gideon tricked Dipper out to an abandoned factory, tossed him around with his psychic powers, and then nearly mauled him with garden shears. When Mabel showed up in the nick of time to stop him, playing keep away with the amulet that gave him his powers, Gideon pushed Dipper right out of a fucking window. The two of them would have probably fallen to their deaths if Mabel hadn't recovered the amulet and saved them.

This is just what happens on a daily basis for Dipper. It's succinct to say that he could handle Scorched's setting.
